Strengthening of the Italian Research Infrastructure for Metrology and Open Access Data in support to the Agrifood

In September, a METROFOOD-IT Event on the Role of Advanced Imaging Technologies in Food Research
A new event is scheduled for METROFOOD-IT this coming September. As part of the international conference ICIAP 2025 (23rd International Conference on Image Analysis and Processing), which will take place in Rome from September 15 to 19, 2025, the research infrastructure will host a workshop entitled:
ImagEAT: Imaging, AI, VR and AR in Food Research to Enhancing Safety, Quality, and Consumer Insights.
The workshop, supported by METROFOOD-IT, will be organized by:
University of Bari Aldo Moro (Prof. Sabina Tangaro)
University of Parma (Prof. Maria Careri)
University of Rome La Sapienza (Prof. Federico Marini)
ImagEAT will explore highly topical subjects, including the role of advanced imaging technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR), and neuroscience in food research. Applications will range from food quality and safety to traceability and the promotion of more informed food choices.
More specifically, the workshop will address:
Multimodal imaging (NMR, MSI, hyperspectral imaging, CT, ESEM, X-ray) for food quality and safety
AI and machine learning for food recognition and personalized nutrition
Augmented and virtual reality for traceability and communication in the food sector
Neuroscience applied to eating behavior
The workshop will be opened by Claudia Zoani, Coordinator of METROFOOD-IT, with a keynote speech on the strategic role of Research Infrastructures and innovation in agrifood systems.
The workshop is scheduled for September 15, 2025. A possible rescheduling to September 16, 2025 is still under consideration and will be communicated through METROFOOD-IT’s official channels if confirmed.
The Call for Papers and Call for Demos are already available online. All researchers, professionals, and stakeholders interested in the workshop topics are invited to participate and submit original contributions.
The submission deadline is set for June 15, 2025.
