Strengthening of the Italian Research Infrastructure for Metrology and Open Access Data in support to the Agrifood
EU FOOD SAFETY FORUM 2026
The fourth edition of the EU Food Safety Forum will take place in Rome, Italy, on 10–11 December 2026, bringing together researchers, policymakers, industry representatives, stakeholders and civil society to discuss emerging challenges and future priorities for food safety in Europe. As the annual event of the EU Food Safety Platform, the Forum provides a dedicated space for dialogue and collaboration across the scientific community, policymaking and the wider food system, supporting a shared vision for a safer, more resilient and competitive European food sector. This year’s theme, “The EU Food Safety System Transitioning Towards Food 2040: How Food Safety Can Contribute to Broader Food 2040 Objectives”, highlights the strategic role of food safety in shaping the future of European food systems. Building on the systemic vision of Food 2030, the emerging Food 2040 framework places greater emphasis on competitiveness, resilience, innovation uptake, scaling up and deployment. Against this background, the Forum will explore how food safety can contribute to these broader objectives while reinforcing its position on the European research and policy agenda. The programme will feature four dedicated sessions addressing key dimensions of food safety research, policy and innovation:
- The Science-Policy-Society Session will highlight the value of multi-stakeholder collaboration in addressing current and emerging challenges.
- The Co-creation Session will invite participants to contribute to the update of the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA), helping align research priorities with evolving needs and opportunities.
- The Networking Session will showcase results and best practices from EU-funded projects, encouraging knowledge exchange and collaboration across the food safety community.
- Finally, the Young Researchers and Innovators Session will provide a platform for the next generation of scientists and innovators to present new ideas and approaches to food safety challenges.
Through dialogue, knowledge exchange and interdisciplinary collaboration, the EU Food Safety Forum 2026 aims to strengthen the contribution of food safety to European research and policymaking, foster the identification of shared priorities and encourage the development and uptake of innovative solutions. The event will offer stakeholders from research, policy, industry and civil society an opportunity to exchange perspectives and contribute to a forward-looking vision for food safety in Europe.
