METROFOOD-IT: A Series of Webinars on Innovation in the Agri-Food Sector Starting on January 30th

In which direction is the world of scientific research moving in the agri-food sector? What technologies are currently being used to improve product quality and the functioning of the supply chain? Furthermore, how can the industry embrace circular economy principles?

These and many other topics of interest to the agrifood world will be explored during a series of webinars organized by the METROFOOD-IT Consortium and its partners (ENEA, University of Naples Federico II, University of Siena, University of Parma, University of Rome La Sapienza, University of Bari, University of Molise, INRIM), with the contribution of METROFOOD-Romania and METROFOOD-Slovenia.

The online sessions, each lasting an hour, and predominantly conducted in Italian, will take place at 10 or 11 a.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. They will delve into topics of particular relevance to the agri-food sector. The discussions will be led by professors and researchers from the partner institutions of METROFOOD-IT, allowing participants the opportunity to interact in real-time by asking questions and making specific requests. This presents a chance for knowledge and dialogue not only for researchers and technologists but also for all sector stakeholders (businesses, professionals, policymakers), who will gain familiarity with strategies and innovations contributing to profound changes in the agrifood world.

The first event is scheduled for January 30th with a presentation coordinated by the University La Sapienza of Rome, titled "Foundations of the Theory of Measurement." The last event is set for April 18th and will be titled "One Health as a Promoter of a Sustainable Food System," featuring a guest from the Romanian Node of METROFOOD-RI, Professor Nastasia Belc – General Director of the Institute of Research & Development for Food Bioresources, Bucharest (IBA).

In total, over the two and a half months of programming, 30 webinars are planned. Topics will range from in-depth exploration of specific analytical techniques used for food quality and safety, demonstration of origin, Blockchain, Vertical Farming technologies, to food contamination prevention. The webinars will be broadcast live but recorded for later use.

You can access the complete schedule of events and register for webinars of interest at this link, and the attached poster provides a comprehensive agenda for all events.

"This series of webinars will allow METROFOOD-IT Consortium partners to share their experiences and specific knowledge with a broader audience than university classrooms, at a time when public awareness of quality and sustainability issues in the agri-food sector is rapidly growing. The webinars will also be an opportunity to showcase the initiatives and services of the Consortium in support of all actors in the agrifood sector. The facilities of METROFOOD-IT Consortium partners are, in fact, essential to ensuring the scientific foundation necessary for the development of healthier, safer, and more sustainable food products," stated Claudia Zoani, coordinator of METROFOOD-IT and ENEA researcher.
