Event on June 18 at LAB Italia in Milan

workshop 17-18 giugno 2025

METROFOOD-IT will participate in the upcoming edition of LAB ITALIA, the event dedicated to professionals in the laboratory sector, scheduled for June 17–18, 2025, at the NH Milano Congress Center in Assago-Milanofiori. Specifically, on June 18 starting at 4:00 PM, a dedicated workshop will be held, organized with the scientific contribution of the infrastructure’s partners.

Following an introductory speech by coordinator Claudia Zoani—who will explain the functioning and goals of the METROFOOD-IT infrastructure—Professor Maria Careri from the University of Parma will give a presentation titled "Advanced and Non-Destructive Diagnostics for the Quality and Safety of Agrifood Products." The focus of the presentation will be on the reliability of measurements in analytical control of food and food contact materials, which is a cornerstone of the METROFOOD-IT infrastructure. This is made possible through the infrastructure’s numerous physical facilities equipped with advanced diagnostic instruments, along with the availability of smart sensors that can support the digitalization of the agri-food system.

Following this, Professor Paola Adamo from the University of Naples Federico II will deliver a talk titled "From Farm to Fork: Integrated Solutions for the Authentication and Geographical Traceability of Agrifood Products." The session will highlight how numerous scientific approaches have been developed in recent years to determine the geographical origin of agri-food products, based on advanced analytical techniques. In particular, the presentation will showcase examples of applications using multi-element and isotopic analysis techniques for the authentication and geographical traceability of agrifood products such as tomato, lemon, potato, and asparagus, along with their respective cultivation soils.

Lastly, starting at 4:45 PM, there will be a session titled "Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain for Food Traceability, Quality, and Safety," led by Professor Remo Pareschi from the University of Molise and Professor Sabina Tangaro from the University of Bari. The presentation will highlight how integrating artificial intelligence, blockchain, and IoT can prevent the spread of unsafe food, significantly reduce the risk of product recalls, and ensure compliance with the most stringent food safety standards. It will also illustrate how this integration can enable the development of a trustworthy digital ecosystem capable of safeguarding public health and strengthening the resilience of the food supply chain.
